My Story
When I was 9 years of age, my family moved to a rural setting. There, as the oldest of six children I had the unique opportunity of caring for chickens, geese, a pony and a cow as well as younger siblings! I enjoyed learning agriculture and science and I joined the cooperative extension and raised pheasants as part of a conservation effort.
My interests in science led me to study at Hartwick College. While at Hartwick I was introduced to the teachings of Bernie Seigal. Bernie Seigal was a surgeon who treated cancer patients with holistic modalities. He was one of the first physicians at Yale to combine preventative health education and spiritual healing along with medical treatments. I followed Dr. Seigal to Yale New Haven Hospital to work as a nurse within this framework.
My passion in holistic healing directed me to missionary work. I worked in Calcutta, India with Mother Theresa's sisters of charity administering to the sick and dying there. Upon returning, I worked with the poor and underinsured families of Albany County as a maternal/child public health nurse. It was there that I learned the importance of including the family dynamics in the care of ill children with multiple medical challenges.
My training continued after my earning my Bachelor's Degree at Binghamton University in Binghamton New York . My experiences there included internships in primary care medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, and pediatric and adolescent care. I graduated with a Masters degree in Family Practice as a Nurse Practitioner. I started my family in my last year of school and have found that my experiences as a mother of three busy children have further aided my medical and psychosocial approach to families in our practice.
I currently serve our Nurse Practitioner Profession as president of our Capital Chapter. As Chapter President I am involved in promoting continuing education, legislative and professional development of our Chapter. On a personal level I work to promote a holistic approach to health care that incorporates illness prevention through healthy lifestyle choices.
My passions include my supportive husband, busy family, and Delmar Pediatrics. I also enjoy (as anyone who knows me can attest) running, training for marathons, supporting kid and family runs, missionary work and good humor.
Call our office at (518) 439-2273 to schedule an appointment with me. I look forward to meeting you and your family.
