I was four years old when I decided to be a physician. My grandmother was frequently ill and as she was my babysitter I was usually her caretaker. It was an easy jump to being a pediatrician as I have always loved children - both as a child myself and as I have grown up. I was born in Belarus which was part of the Soviet Union at the time and the opportunities for me to fulfill my dreams were few. Luckily my parents moved us to the U.S. - for many reasons, not least of which a chance for me to have a better future.

I have stayed on my path towards pediatrician from the very beginning. I attended Cornell University for my undergraduate degree which allowed me not only to pursue a pre-medical course of study but also to enjoy other subjects ranging from the sciences to my (not-so) secret passion for the theater. At Cornell I acted in various plays, including Twelve Angry Men, as well as tried my hand at directing one. Time commitments have limited me from performing but I enjoy attending shows as frequently as possible.

From there I went on to SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY which further reinforced my love of pediatrics. I toyed (very briefly) with the possibility of surgery as I enjoy working with my hands at times but my ultimate love of children and their health care won me back over. Starting with a clean slate upon which I can hopefully have a very positive influence ranging from preventing disease through immunizations to encouraging healthy lifestyle choices is a very appealing thought.

I continued my education in a pediatric residency program at Albany Medical Center. I worked for a few years in Kingston, NY which gave me an appreciation for community medicine where all the specialists were no longer at my fingertips. In May 2006 I rejoined the Albany community by joining Delmar Pediatrics and have enjoyed it since (despite morning sickness and a rapidly growing feeling of physical imbalance). It always amazes me how a child can cheer me up even on a dreary day.

I have a great husband who has decided to follow in my footsteps and is currently training to be a pediatrician as well. My son is a wonderful 2 year old who loves his kisses and snuggles. My second son (as I alluded above) is due at the beginning of 2007. I also have a wonderful 10 year old step-daughter who adores her baby brother and helps take care of him. She's thrilled about the new baby on the way (although she was hoping for a sister this time).

When I get the opportunity I love to relax with a movie or a good book. When I’m really motivated, I can even be seen working in my garden among the flowers and veggies.
